Goderich, Ontario

A new base for the Canadian Coast Guard, stationed at the harbour in Goderich, Ontario, was constructed to replace the existing, inadequate building. The base serves as living quarters for the crew of four and was designed to LEED Silver equivalent, incorporating ground-source heating and cooling, solar water heating, triple glazed windows and high insulation values. The building had to be constructed with high level sound control and salt resistant materials, due to its close proximity to Compass Minerals (the Goderich salt mine). Fuel storage, clock structure and radio tower were also components of the project for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
